JMS的特色《Journal of Mountain Science》是由中国科学院主管，中国科学院·水利部成都山地灾害与环境研究所主办的国际性全英文期刊杂志。主办单位中国科学院·水利部成都山地灾害与环境研究所是我国唯一专门从事山地研究的科研机构。主编崔鹏研究员为我国山地灾害研究领域的知名专家，44位编 委分别来来自5大洲21个国家/地区/国际组织。本刊所有稿件须通过同行评议后方能发表，同行评议人员均为该领域的专家学者， 其中， 70%以上为中国大陆以外的研究人员。本刊约50%的稿件来自中国大陆以外的作者的投稿，作者分布在全世界三十多个国家和地区。本刊于创刊当年即被国际权威二次文献系统GeoRef收录，2006年起被Springer文献数据库全文收录，2007年进入科学引文数据库扩展版（SCI-E。 在全世界专门关注山地研究的期刊杂志中，除国 内的《山地学报》《山地科学学报（英文）》外，国外专注于山地科学的期刊杂志主要有Journal of Mountain Ecology（意大利）|Mountain Geologist（美国）|Mountain Research and Development（瑞士）等，其中被SCI收录的期刊杂志仅有4种。《山地科学学报（英文版）》有关高山特别是喜马拉雅地区的研究在国际山地科学研究界引起了广泛的关注。《山地科学学报（英文）》主要发表在自然条件和人类活动影响下山地环境演变与可持续发展的研究论文和知名专家的综述性文章，选题范围主要包括应对气候变化背景下的山地科学研究|山地环境演变及其与人类活动的关系，山地生态系统退化与修复，以泥石流|滑坡|土壤侵蚀为重点的山地灾害的动力过程及防治理论和技术，山区流域管理与开发治理，山区特色资源保护和开发，山区文化多样性和民族经济发展，山区少数民族问题与居民福利等。3.
